Parkade Rehabilitation with Carbon Fiber Reinforcing at Royal Ave

Restoring Structural Integrity with Advanced Techniques

Excessive amount of spalling and visible loss of structural integrity due to failed waterproofing membrane above or non-existent membrane.

Pooling water around the base of support posts causing excessive corrosion and concrete damage.

Dead end rebar located. No tie in to other rebar or posts for continuous support.

Conduits subject to water ingress from above. Saturation of the electrical conduit caused conduit disintigration and immediate failure of the lines upon concrete removal.

First item: remove all asphalt pavement and membrane at the top.

Expose all delaminated concrete and rust areas to address repairs to the reinforcing bars.

Remove rebar which has lost its structural integrity and replace with new.

Saw cut concrete for patch areas, remove concrete and prepare rebar for sandblasting and coating prior to patching.

Sandblast rebar to provide a bondable clean surface. Sandblast concrete to remove any loose materials and microfractures prior to new concrete
placement.

Application of a cementatious corrosion inhibitor to the reinforcing bar.

New patch applied with edges to be ground down for the application of carbon fiber.

New conduit installed and suspended until carbon fiber application is completed.

Floor cracks on interior non-membrane floors routed and compressed air cleaned, ready for application of a flexible sealant.

Application of Stop-A-Drop liquid asphalt membrane with protection board on cleaned deck prior to new asphalt pavement wear surface.

Asphalt pavement applied on top of membrane. Lines painted, almost
ready for service.

Start of carbon fiber installation. Surface sandblasted, ground, dust removed, and primer application applied.

Saturation of the carbon fiber prior to placement.

Finished product of fiberwrap materials by Mapei.

Structural integrity of the deck doubled to accommodate proper design loads and limit future shear cracking.

Carbon plate installed on main long beam sections to reduce bending.

Application of carbon fiber wrap around damaged post locations.

Sealer applied to interior levels to maintain the wear surface and provide some protection to salt attack in the winter.
